12 SOUTH

12South is the neighborhood district along 12th Avenue South defined by Wedgewood Avenue on the north and Gale Lane on the south. In the late 1990’s, Metro Public Works began a multi-year neighborhood improvements project intended to improve walkability, reduce traffic speeds, and to enhance the retail experience. These efforts, along with a reinvigorated Merchant Association, have resulted in a full on revival. 

12South has welcomed new retailers and restaurants and has the focal point for the adjacent neighborhood.  Homes in 12South are a mix of historic Bungalows and Foursquares from the 20’s and 30’s, many with a Craftsman influence. Newly built homes are replacing run down properties, and are often historic replicas, in keeping with the character of the neighborhood.  Sevier Park, just up the street from the commercial district, provides neighbors with green space, with winding walking trails, playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts.  A new community center is coming soon.
