Go Green, District 18

Go Green, District 18Did you know that more than 40% of America’s carbon emissions come from heating, cooling, lighting and operating buildings? In a neighborhood characterized by unique, historic homes, such as District 18, that percentage is even higher. It is important that these homes are retro-fitted to increase their energy efficiency, reduce their dependence on fossil fuels, and shrink the community’s carbon footprint.

Go Green, District 18 is an initiative to reduce District 18’s energy consumption by 5%. Each homeowner and business in District 18 is encouraged to sign up for an NES In-Home Energy Evaluation to help decrease their power usage. The goal is to have 360 residences complete the evaluation and modifications by the end of 2010, and for 36 businesses to undergo commercial evaluations.

NES, in partnership with TVA, will provide homeowners with an In-Home Energy Evaluation for a fee of $150. This fee is reimbursed if recommended improvements totaling more than $150 are made. Participants are also reimbursed 50% of the installation cost up to $500, and federal tax credits apply for some improvements up to $1500. After home improvements are complete, homeowners and businesses can track their energy savings online through a special NES program called Powerwise.

Go Green, District 18 is a focused initiative designed to produce measurable results in one area of Davidson County. However, all homeowners and businesses throughout Davidson County are encouraged to undergo In-Home Energy Evaluations and can sign up through this web site. The hope is that this grassroots program will be adopted in other council districts to support Mayor Karl Dean’s Green Ribbon Committee’s initiatives to reduce Nashville’s energy usage by 5% by 2012 and 20% by 2020.

To participate in Go Green, District 18, sign up for an NES In-Home Energy Evaluation. Call 1-866-441-1430 or sign up for a home evaluation HERE or a business evaluation HERE.
